[English] Rare Antique Japanese Mokume-style Yatate(Portable Inkhorn) with Original Brush & Paper Knife
This is a highly rare and collectible antique Japanese "Yatate" (portable writing set used by Samurai and travelers) from the late Edo to Meiji period. It comes complete with its original brush and a small paper knife (the knife handle has an engraved mark "六" and the blade is iron). The back of the Yatate has a maker's mark "順".
The body features a beautiful wood-grain pattern (Mokume style) with elegant bamboo inlay work.
[Condition & Material Note]
In great antique condition with natural patina and verdigris. The ink pot still contains the original ink and sponge.
Please note: As seen in photo 6 and the tip of the case, there are small areas where the surface pattern appears to be peeling or rubbed, revealing the base metal. Therefore, we cannot guarantee if this is true "Mokume-gane" (layered forged mixed metals) or a highly sophisticated "Mokume-nuri/plating" (surface treatment painted/plated to look like wood grain).
Please check the high-resolution photos carefully and judge the material and technique for yourself before purchasing.
A true museum-quality piece for Samurai item collectors!
