Genre: Minimal Electro / Minimal New Wave/ Synth Pop / Post-Punk.
With his solo project Konstantin Unwohl, Hamburg-based artist Korbinian Scheffold has released several cassettes in recent years. 2021 saw the release of his debut album on the Berlin-based cult label aufnahme+wiedergabe.
On it, he perfected his musical style; a mixture of minimalist darkwave and contemporary synth-pop. With “Neuer Wall”, Unwohl now presents an extremely strong 2nd album, conceived, written and produced entirely by himself. The tracks are characterised by light-footed melodies and powerful beats from Unwohl's collection of synthesizers, drum machines and samplers.
Some of the rhythms drag along like an approaching suburban train, only to propel us back onto the dance floor when we reach peak performance. Neuer Wall thus manages the balancing act between analogue extravagance and digital modesty. Homage and criticism at the same time, this album is pervaded by an almost extinguished hope by a thread, but without losing itself in cynicism. Full of charm, Konstantin Unwohl deconstructs the everyday and manages to mix nostalgic moments and zeitgeist.
