| A young pianist making a major-label debut can generally go in one of two directions. He or she might choose the traditional route, offering well-established classical repertory, or try out the field of classical crossover, with the promise of lucrative sales if the album clicked with audiences in a big way. More unusual is the path chosen by the charismatic Hayato Sumino, who has already accumulated an audience in the millions on social and streaming media, with his Sony Classical-label debut. Human Universe, which features six of Suminos own compositions (including the title track), doesnt neatly fall into either category. True, Suminos own works offer the dreamy, quasi-Chopinesque quality prized by crossover audiences, and his traditional classical pieces are all familiar and easy to absorb. But give him a close listen, and one can hear the keyboard mastery that took him to the semifinals of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. The articulation of the voices in Bachs Jesu, Joy of Mans Desiring (Jesus name is spelled out in full here) and especially in the little Purcell Ground in C minor, Z. 221, where he adds a tinkly top voice, are remarkable. The effect, with Sonys engineers getting a fascinating clavichord-like sound out of his piano, is mesmerizing. And there is no monotone affect of the kind found on the usual crossover album; Sumino is not afraid to break out with Lisztian virtuosity in his finale, a set of variations on Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star of his own devising. | 全世界待望の角野隼斗ワールドワイド・デビューアルバム ベルリンに本拠を置くソニークラシカルと専属レコーディングのワールドワイド契約を締結した角野隼斗の世界デビュー・アルバムのタイトルは『Human Universe』。角野隼斗は幼いころから宇宙に興味を持っていたと語り、今回の世界デビューに当たり、音楽と宇宙、人の心の連環をテーマに16トラックから成る音楽世界を練り上げた。角野自ら作曲した新曲に加え、J.S.バッハ、フォーレ、パーセル、坂本龍一の作品など、多様なレパートリーが収録されている。アルバムの中軸に位置し、今作の重心の一つとなっているのが、角野が作曲した3曲で構成される「3つのノクターン」だ。それぞれ、「Pre Rain」、「After Dawn」、「Once in A Blue Moon」と副題が付けられ、地球の気象、太陽や月の動態などにインスピレーションを得て作曲したことが窺える。また、2024年の全国ツアー「KEYS」でも披露され大絶賛を博した、角野自らの編曲によるラヴェルのボレロも収録。本来オーケストラで演奏する作品を、演奏能力と編曲手腕を駆使した角野が一人で演奏することで、かえって曲の壮大さが増す奇跡のトラックとなっている。 今作について角野隼斗は「『Human Universe』制作の原点は、芸術と科学の古い相関関係に立ち返り、古代の宇宙の概念に思いを馳せることでした。古代ギリシャ人は、宇宙の天体が音を発し、宇宙全体が調和と音楽、いわゆる『天球の音楽』を生み出すと信じていました。私はこのコンセプトが大好きで、音楽における私自身の美学にとても近いものであり、このアルバムを世界中のリスナーと分かち合えることは、私にとって何にもかえがたいものです。」と語っている。世界を舞台に活躍する角野隼斗の「リフトオフ」から目を離すことができない。 ＜角野隼斗＞ 1995年生まれの28歳。3歳でピアノを始め、2018年東京大学大学院在学中にピティナピアノコンペティション特級グランプリを受賞。2021年、第18回ショパン国際ピアノコンクールセミファイナリスト、その他受賞多数。現在は国内外でコンサート活動を行う傍ら、"Cateen(かてぃん)"名義で自ら作編曲および演奏した動画をYouTubeにて配信し、チャンネル登録者数は135万人を、総再生回数は1億8千万回をそれぞれ突破(2024年7月現在)。 |
