35年以上経っているにも関わらず、オリジナル塗装は一切白濁も褪色も無し。目立つ傷も無し。赤系でこんな新品のような色、そして透明感を維持している個体は奇跡です。
1000本のみ製作された「Signature」シリーズの一本（400番台）。当時の最高峰の木と技術を詰め込んだ、ファクトリー初期のPrivate Stockとも言われています。
しかしPSは少なくとも1万本以上が存在しお金を払えばオーダーできるのに対して、Signatureは増えることがないため市場価値はこれからも高騰する一方です。ポール氏が多くの部分を自ら手がけていることを考えれば、400万円以上で取引されるPaul’s 28と同じ価値になってもおかしくないと思います。
現在では入手困難なハカランダを指板に、ホンジュラスマホガニーをボディに採用。
ハカランダだけが持つ鐘の鳴るような倍音と、ホンマホの温もりと空気感で包み込むようなサウンドは、生音で弾いていても時間を忘れるほど。 ピックアップはもちろん純正のHFS&Vintage Bass。Signatureは中でも選定された個体を使用しています。 空気を呑み込むような豊かなミドル、そして初期ならではの力強く煌びやかなトレブル。きめ細やかな歪みと枯れたウォームな低域。 そして永遠とも思えるサスティンは、美しい倍音だけで構成された別の楽器が鳴っているのではないかと思うほど。
ネックも勿論まっすぐで非常に良好、弦高は低く、フレットもほとんど減り無し。純正ハードケース、当時のタグが付属します。
ピック傷、ネックやバックのこすり傷、ごく数カ所の小傷を除けば新品同様です。米粒大の打傷すらありません。
数千円のポリッシュに出せば完全に新品のようになり、博物館に展示できるレベルになるかと思います。個人的には全く気にならないのでそのままにしています。
PRSの中でも特別な意味を持つSignatureシリーズ。その中でも赤系で完璧なコンディションの個体は市場に他に出回らないはずです。PRS歴史の一部を所有できる稀少かつ至高の一本です。ぜひこの機会にご検討ください。

アンプはありませんが、Kemper ヘッド + Sony MDR-CD900ST スタジオモニターヘッドフォンで試奏可能です。
