" Istoria delle Indie Orientali" (History of the East Indies) is the 1830 Italian edition of the renowned history book by the Jesuit historian Giovanni Pietro Maffei (also known as Giovan Pietro Maffei). The original text is based on " Historiarum Indicarum Libri XVI, " published in Latin in 1589 .
This 1830 edition was published by Antonio Fontana of Milan as part of the " Biblioteca storica di tutte le nazioni " (Collection of Historical Records of All Nations). The Italian translation was done by Francesco Serdonati and was published in two octavo volumes.
The book describes the history of the Portuguese East Indies, missionary activities in Asia, and contact with early Europeans in India, Japan, China, and surrounding regions, with a particular emphasis on the missionary work of the Society of Jesus. Volume 1 is generally considered to be 438 pages long, and the two volumes together comprise approximately 870 pages.
