【銘】 『兼定』【鞘書】 『会津住兼定十一代作』
初代会津兼定は室町期の濃州関兼定の三代目にあたる孫で
奥州会津の地に於ける兼定家の開祖となりました。
中でも十一代兼定はその掉尾を飾る名工と誉れ高く、
新撰組副長・土方歳三の佩刀の作者としても広く知られ
非常に多くの愛刀家達から熱烈な支持を集める人気工です。
刃長8寸6分超、生ぶ茎の健全な姿で重ねゴリッと厚く
杢交じりの大板目が強靭に錬れて松皮風に美しく肌立ち
地沸微塵について肌目に沿って地景入り古調な肌合いを見せ、
刃文は焼頭が丸みを帯びた真骨頂の三本杉乱れを巧みに焼き上げ
小沸よくついて長い砂流しや金筋が働き地刃明るく冴えわたるなど、
十一代兼定の技量と特色を存分に示した良い出来の作品です。
